Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A regular Sunday morning turned into a nightmare for residents of Thakurpukur, Kolkata, as a speeding car rammed into a bustling market, injuring at least 8 to 10 people. The incident occurred at around 9:30 AM, sparking panic, chaos, and public outrage in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle entered the market at high speed, showing no signs of braking, and hit multiple pedestrians in its path. People were flung off their feet, stalls were overturned, and several sustained minor to moderate injuries. The injured were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Locals erupted in anger against local councillor Chhanda Sarkar, accusing her of ignoring previous complaints about road safety in the area. Many blamed the ongoing construction work, which they say has narrowed the roads and made the market zone more dangerous for both pedestrians and vehicles.
The Thakurpukur Police responded promptly, arriving at the scene to bring the situation under control. Officers detained two individuals who were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. They are currently being questioned, and authorities are exploring if drunk driving or intentional recklessness were involved.
